Defect details: - A defect in the engine warning light and message coming on due to a manufacturing defect in the fixing bolt of the variable valve timing system (VANOS) of BMW 6-cylinder gasoline engines (N51, N52 engines) and 6-cylinder gasoline turbo engines (N55 engine) - There is a possibility that the variable valve timing system may not operate the valve timing smoothly due to oil leakage, and as a result, when the engine warning light and message appear, the engine may enter safety mode and the vehicle's speed may decrease. Defect details: <p>When the vehicle was first sold, it was shipped with a steering wheel without TAKATA airbags, but after shipping, it was confirmed that the customer may have installed a sports or M sports steering wheel with TAKATA airbags among replacement parts approved by BMW. The steering wheel in question is equipped with an airbag inflator that uses ammonium nitrate, and the compressed gas propellant inside the inflator may have been deformed when the vehicle is exposed to high temperature and humidity for a long period of time. In this case, the front airbag on the driver's side may deploy abnormally during an accident, causing the inflator body to rupture.
